United Kingdom of Great Britain & N. Ireland (Press Release) September 27, 2007 --
It seems apparent the King of road trips, Jeremy Clarkson, could soon be trading blows among MPs in the House of Commons if the signatories of an online campaign get their way. A ‘make Jeremy Clarkson prime minister’ petition is currently running on the 10 Downing Street website, which to date has been signed by nearly 7,900 people pledging their support for his move into politics. While it’s unlikely Clarkson would even entertain the idea of running for the top job, someone has cleverly added his name to the list. Still, it looks like Gordon Brown’s new job is safe for the time being, as the petition doesn’t end until April 2008. The petition simply states: "We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Make Jeremy Clarkson Prime Minister".
While twin brothers and travel writers, Simon Raven and Chris Raven, might not be in a hurry to make Jeremy Clarkson Prime Minister, he was the inspiration for their road trip across Siberia in a £300 Ford Sierra. “Jeremy Clarkson pushes the boundaries, and inspires energy and debate,” said Simon. “Although he might make a terrible Prime Minister, it is fair to say that our leaders might learn a thing or two if they listened to popular opinion and removed all of the spin and scaremongering used in modern politics.”
In a hilarious account of the Raven brothers epic journey, ‘The Linger Longer: Driving the Trans-Siberian’, published by Samosir Books, the reader is taken on a rollercoaster ride of mayhem as the brothers befriend Chechen criminals, trade banana flavoured condoms with Russia cops and survive highway robbery in the Siberian wilderness. Sleeping in the car for six-weeks, the brothers made it to Vladivostok by the skin of their teeth where they gave the car away to the croupier working in the casino of the Hotel Vladivostok. Simon and Chris started travelling together in 2001. They returned from their travels inspired and wrote the first book in the Linger series ‘Living the Linger’, a hilarious account of a road trip across Western America. Having turned their backs on their careers in London (Simon worked as an Internet producer for AOL, and Chris as a never quite got started fashion photographer) they soon found themselves working in a -30oC freezer packing warehouse to fund a number of unplanned trips which have taken them around the globe. The brothers are currently recovering from their latest expedition to the Middle East after driving the Road to Damascus in a £300 Ford Escort.
The brother's new travel comedy 'The Linger Loco: In Search of the Real Carnival' is due for release (11 Oct 2007) following the success of, The Linger Longer: Driving the Trans-Siberian, last year which led them to appear on Radio 4’s travel programme Excess Baggage hosted by Sandi Toksfig. This time the brothers find themselves eating bull’s testicles in Buenos Aires, kissing Egyptians in the Inca City of Cusco and experiencing one night with The Rolling Stones in Rio, as they head over the Andes and through the Amazon as they go in search of the ultimate carnival in Brazil.

Simon and Chris Raven, drove across Russia from the UK to Vladivostok in a £300 Ford Sierra, and believe it’s the honesty and rawness of Jeremy Clarkson that makes him appealing as a potential leader.
