Maria Muldaur and Bonnie Raitt's New "Yes We Can" Song

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) July 14, 2008 -- Sausilito, CA - Maria Muldaur, best known for her timeless song "Midnight at The Oasis" has teamed up with the legendary Bonnie Raitt and other singers to form the "Women's Voices For Peace Choir" and produced a singing tribute to U.S. Senator Barack Obama's historic run to be President Of The United States.

Maria explains how "Yes We Can" came to be in her own words:

"In the fall of 2007, I found myself deeply concerned about the state of our world and the crucial social, political, economic and environmental issues that are confronting us all,' she explains. "I became inspired to record what started out as a "Protest" album, but quickly morphed into a "Pro-Peace" album.

/> "I realized I wanted to put forth a positive message of hope and change (not "doom and gloom"), and started collecting songs that reflected that positive spirit. I found a lot of great material in the socially relevant soul and funk songs of the early 70's, including the title track "Yes We Can!" - written by Allen Toussaint, and a big hit for the Pointer Sisters "back in the day".

"I called on many women who have long raised their voices for the causes of peace and social justice, including Joan Baez, Odetta, Phoebe Snow, Holly Near, and my dear soul sister Bonnie Raitt (who added her funky testifying on "Yes We Can!") and together we became "The Women's Voices For Peace Choir".

"It

wasn't until the album was completed in early April '08, that I first became aware that Senator Barack Obama was using the phrase "Yes We Can!" as his "mantra" during his many inspired speeches and rallies. It was suggested to me that I offer the song to be used in any way that might support Obama's campaign for the presidency.

I was recently thrilled to learn that Obama received the song, feels it "certainly fits the spirit of the campaign" and has suggested to his team that it be included in their rally rotation. As an artist, I am humbly grateful to know that my musical efforts are being used for such a worthy cause."

The song's music video can be seen here at http://www.yeswecanthevideo.com

It's on YouTube, and 14 other video distribution systems.
